For anyone connected with TV, content, and digital media in Europe, IBC is the big one.
From rather humble beginnings in 1967, the International Broadcasting Convention has grown into the annual event for media professionals. Last year over 50,000 attendees from 160 countries around the world marvelled at some 1,300 of the world’s key technology suppliers and this year, from September 7-11th in Amsterdam, it promises to be even bigger!
Equinix Europe are delighted to be exhibiting and we’ll be featuring two of our broadcast related customers on our stand, Front Porch Digital and RTL. Our view is that by locating TV platforms and infrastructure in our network-dense and spacious date centres we can improve performance as well as offer access to our rich media ecosystem.
That’s important to an industry that has rapidly moved from analogue to digital and embraced IP and Mobile. Among this year’s hot topics are how the increasing number of connected devices viewing video are further changing the way in which the media industry functions.
In fact, IBC has created a dedicated ‘Connected World’ area to showcase the latest in over-the-top video, IPTV and mobile TV and it’s an area I’ll be taking a particular interest in. (If I get a chance, I’ll also try and check out special guest speaker, will.i.am, who is examining the role of technology in the creative process!)
It promises to be an exciting few days and I’ll be reporting back on some of the key developments and sharing some thoughts on how Equinix can help content and digital media companies continue to adapt.
If you’re there at IBC, please drop by and visit Equinix at Stand 3.C12 and let me know what you think!
