Equinix’s fifth data center in Dallas has been open for a couple months now, but some openings aren’t quite complete until they’re “grand,” and the grand opening we held at our new DA6 facility this week was notable enough to draw some good press coverage.
The coverage hit on some of advantages of colocating at DA6 that we possibly might have mentioned before, including its location in a communications and geographic center. It also highlighted how DA6 is a digital gateway to Latin America and is a network and cloud services hub.
But we’re not in the business of giving out spoilers. We encourage you to take a look at the coverage yourself, and we’re happy to lend a hand. Here’s a roundup of this week’s coverage of DA6’s grand opening, with links to the stories:
Dallas Business Journal: $34M Equinix expansion shows Dallas’ data center dominance
An online article on DA6 by the Dallas Business Journal called Dallas “a key hub on the global information superhighway.” It then added, “That’s why data center services provider Equinix has completed a $34 million facility in the Dallas InfoMart.”
Equinix President for Americas Karl Strohmeyer told the paper, “We continue to invest where we see a high level of demand.”
He also talked about Dallas as a critical interconnection point, not just between the east and west coasts of the U.S., but also to points south.
“We operate four facilities in Brazil,” Strohmeyer said. “We believe South America is a nice, growing part of the world, certainly as it pertains to the digital economy. That’s a huge part of why we’re investing in Dallas. It’s a gateway for us to Latin America.”
CBSDFW: New International Data Center Opens In Dallas
This TV segment on the DA6 opening is short, to be sure. But if a picture is worth a thousand words, we think that speaks well to the potential value of a video. This segment by CBSDFW focuses on how the new Dallas facility offers interconnection to Latin America.

Data Center Knowledge: Equinix Holds Grand Opening for … Dallas Data Center
This article by Data Center Knowledge hits on the cloud interconnection available at DA6. It notes that DA6 is one of 16 Equinix facilities worldwide where customers will be able to use Microsoft ExpressRoute to directly link to Microsoft’s Azure cloud services.
“This will serve as the access point in that market for cloud-based services,” said Ryan Mallory, Equinix senior director and global solutions architect. “It’ll be accessed through the Equinix Cloud Exchange.”
The article added: “Microsoft is not the only cloud provider using Equinix to expand its reach. Amazon Web Services and IBM SoftLayer, among a number of other smaller providers, have also partnered with the data center services giant.”
