We spend a lot of time at Equinix telling businesses how the interconnection inside our data centers can help them overcome barriers that are preventing cloud adoption. But what about the questions that arise after an enterprise commits to the cloud and wants to know how to best adapt and take advantage of its capabilities? Because there are plenty of those.
Today, Equinix and our partner Datapipe offered some answers. At AWS re:Invent we announced joint hybrid IT solutions that help the enterprise manage and maximize their IT infrastructure inside the AWS cloud.
Hybrid IT Solutions for Amazon Web Services (AWS) take advantage of the reach of Equinix’s global footprint of 100-plus data centers, the scalable interconnection of the Equinix Cloud Exchange and Datapipe’s managed services expertise.
Datapipe and Equinix are both longtime AWS partners, we both know the Amazon cloud environment, and we can help businesses get the most out of it.
“We can offer the best of both worlds for customers by providing a secure data center platform with private access to AWS along with the expertise of Datapipe to help design and manage an optimal IT architecture for enterprises,” said Phillip Marangella, Equinix’s Sr. Director, Market Development Cloud Solutions.
Research indicates businesses are increasingly trying to enhance their application performance by turning to the hybrid cloud, which is a combination of an enterprise’s private cloud with public clouds like AWS. Gartner predicts that by 2017, 50% of enterprises will use a hybrid cloud.
But global IT enterprise leaders also say they’re constantly facing challenges related to the reliability, performance and security of the cloud. That’s where the new hybrid IT solutions come in.
Every business brings different skills and capabilities to the cloud, and our joint solutions can help fill in any holes. For instance, if a company doesn’t have the expertise to design, build, migrate or manage its applications and workloads on the cloud, Datapipe does, and has experience helping countless enterprises from many different verticals.
Customers of our hybrid IT solutions can use the AWS Direct Connect service – which is offered in eight Equinix data centers worldwide, including Germany, where AWS recently expanded into continental Europe for the first time via Equinix. The direct connections bypass the public Internet for superior security and enhance performance, as well as better control and higher throughput. Customers can also access Equinix Cloud Exchange, which allows them to connect to multiple cloud services simultaneously, so they can build a cloud that’s tailored to their specific needs at any given time.
Here are some examples of common ways Hybrid IT Solutions for Amazon Web Services can work for the enterprise:
- Datapipe can protect sensitive company data on a private cloud, while offering fast, direct links to AWS public cloud computing resources (via Equinix), as needed.
- Datapipe enables seamless integration between AWS services and an enterprise’s IT environment, which means highly available, data intensive-applications are supported in a secure, compliant environment.
- Organizations can maintain mission-critical applications on a Datapipe-managed private cloud, or within an Equinix data center, and use the AWS cloud for disaster recovery services.
