For Equinix, Success is a Journey Not a Destination

The ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu pointed out that even the longest of journeys begins with a single step. But he neglected to mention that if all the difficulties were known at the outset, most people would never get started.

That kind of thinking has never stopped Equinix, or even slowed it down. In fact, Equinix has just won the Data Center Dynamics (DCD) Award for “Cloud Journey of the Year” for the first year. What’s more, it has also taken the “Service Provider of the Year” Award for a second consecutive year.

Equinix is on a roll

The judges chose Equinix for the “Cloud Journey of the Year award following the launch of Equinix Cloud Exchange – an advanced interconnection solution that enables seamless, on-demand and direct access to multiple clouds and over 1,100 networks globally. Since its launch, Cloud Exchange has been instrumental in helping enterprises to overcome key cloud challenges such as performance, security, cost uncertainty, reliability and vendor lock-in.

Available in 21 strategic markets across five continents, such a global reach gives both large and small enterprises alike the support to expand their businesses overseas. In addition, partnering with major cloud service providers, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform and IBM Softlayer among others, Equinix enables enterprises to connect directly to these industry’s top providers.

Another great year

That’s not the end of the journey. The launch of the Equinix Cloud Exchange also contributed to Equinix winning the DCD “Service Provider of the Year” award once again. The win recognised the unique value proposition that Cloud Exchange can bring to the market and Equinix’s commitment to supporting enterprise demand for interconnection services across its global footprint.

Over the past year, Equinix has embarked on several aggressive expansion initiatives, including the opening of five new data centers, two of them located in the APAC region.

For example, we opened ME1-Melbourne, SG3-Singapore along with innovative new service offerings such as the Performance Hub.

As Equinix’s largest data center in Asia-Pacific, SG3 is designed to meet strong demand for premium data center and interconnection services in Singapore and the region. In fact, it was specifically designed to meet the stringent safety and data security guidelines of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

These developments have paid off handsomely for Equinix and our customers. In addition to securing these two prestigious DCD awards, there have also been significant gains in operational efficiency and business performance. In real terms, Equinix’s Asia-Pacific business has seen 26% growth year-on-year in the third quarter of 2015.

That’s a fantastic achievement. However, in many ways, success is a journey, rather than a destination. Good company makes any trip seem shorter.

Equinix intends to continue being a great company, so our customers are less worried about how we get there, and more focussed on making the most of the opportunities we are creating along the way.

And, hopefully, picking up a few more awards in the process.
