What’s the difference between a good company and a great one? It’s an interesting question and one that’s tough to answer. But, I’m convinced about one thing – a healthy corporate culture is one of the most important factors.

As the world’s leading interconnection and data center company, we believe that interconnection is the biggest game-changer of the 21st century, fostering new forms of interaction and innovation. And our belief in the power of interconnection holds true not only from a business standpoint, but extends to all aspects of our work, acting as the foundation of our corporate culture and human resources values.

We understand that a healthy, interconnected and collaborative corporate culture is one of the most important factors in Equinix’s success in the region. Especially when that culture creates an environment where our people can enjoy and value their working experience. When people feel included, and they are appreciated for who they are, they work to their fullest potential. It’s this strong culture that has led us to continuously grow our business over the past years. And to keep pace with the growing business in the region, in these 15 years, we have expanded our team nearly 20-fold, from less than 100 people in 2002 to more than 1,500 now.

That’s the approach we have always favored and it has paid tremendous dividends, not only in driving business growth and expansion, but also in building a dedicated, engaged and enthusiastic team.

That’s not just my opinion. It’s an official finding by HR Asia, which conducted a detailed survey of Equinix team members, comprising a series of questions and covering three pillars: Heart – their emotional engagement with the company, Mind – behavior and advocacy, and Soul – intent and motivation.

We were extremely pleased with the results of the survey, in which Equinix scored significantly higher than the industry average in all three pillars. And it was an honor to be recognized as “One of the Best Companies to Work For in Asia” in both Singapore and Hong Kong.

On top of this, Equinix was recently recognized by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service as a “Caring Company” for our commitment to caring for the community, team members and the environment over the past few years.

These accolades are great encouragement for us. Since the commencement of our operations in Asia-Pacific in 2002, we have worked hard to develop the Equinix Employee Value Proposition – based on Leadership, Development, Culture and Rewards & Recognition – which is geared towards creating sustainable value from the inside out.

Onboarding is definitely the perfect opportunity to make a positive, lasting impression on a new hire, and is a critical part of an effective talent management strategy. New members of the Equinix family are offered a comprehensive onboarding program, which covers their first 30, 60 and 90 days with the company.

And this is just the start of our people development journey.

To better support our people to interconnect, share and grow, we run the Equinix Ambassador Program, which serves as a good platform for people, especially new members, to learn important facts about the company, culture and customers through a series of training sessions.

We also provide tailor-made training to our people across various functions throughout their career. These come in all forms – some given internally by experienced experts, and others provided by professional training organizations.

To support the continued development and progression of our people, we take steps to prepare team members to become the leaders of the future. Our new performance management framework, means all new first-level managers undergo a series of management trainings where they are taught key self-management and leadership skills.

Last but not least, Equinix believes a diverse and collaborative workplace leads to innovation, better collaboration, and a vibrant culture where everyone is respected, valued and heard. The Equinix Women Leaders Network (EWLN), is one of our key employee-led initiatives that promotes gender diversity and female leadership in the workplace.
