Our hearts go out to all those who have been impacted by COVID-19 and, now more than ever, it is important for us to be united in community and remain #InServiceTo each other.
This past December, in a blog post addressed to our broader community, I committed to you that Equinix in 2020 would continue to be #InServiceTo our employees, customers, partners, shareholders, and the communities in which we operate. In the face of this pandemic, that statement has never been more true.
Core to our company values and the trust you’ve placed in us, Equinix is approaching this continuously evolving situation with urgency, with focus and with the utmost care in order to provide continuity of our services and expanded support for our extended community.
In response to the growing pandemic, we remain #InServiceTo:
Our customers and partners
While all Equinix data centers are currently fully operational, we have implemented a number of precautionary measures to minimize the risk of operational impact and to protect the health and safety of employees, customers, partners and our communities, which include:
- Leveraging our IBX technicians via Smart Hands whenever possible to reduce the number of people on site
- Restricting visits to the IBX to critical work only
- Minimizing the number of people and the amount of time spent in the IBX facilities
Equinix is closely monitoring the rapidly developing events globally and will continue to keep customers and partners informed on any significant changes to these procedures.
During this time of increased physical isolation, Equinix is also supporting our customers’ most urgent needs associated with “work from home” policies. This includes supplying customers across a variety of vertical industries with the critical IT access needed to support their increasing virtual interactions, including connectivity to business-critical cloud services, rapidly expanding video conferencing capabilities, and increasing local VPN capacity.
As businesses rush to scale online collaboration and network capacity, Equinix is already working with customers to enable distributed and remote workforces. Within our ecosystem, we are providing access to all major network, cloud, and service providers who are actively helping organizations increase capacity and expand their reach to more locations globally, bringing data and applications closer to their users.
Our global community
In support of our local communities, we are mobilizing our employees and accelerating our philanthropic programs to help those in need during these difficult times. We are also donating Platform Equinix services – such as Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric (ECX Fabric), Internet Exchange, and other interconnection services – free of charge to qualifying organizations seeking to support the greater good through this pandemic. We are offering these services to key providers of healthcare, education, government, and other essential services like food supply chains, COVID-19 research and NGOs, in order to alleviate critical IT bottlenecks and scale their interconnection needs, so they can continue their important work to support the most pressing challenges posed by this pandemic.
We are privileged that the Equinix business model has been resilient through times of uncertainty, providing both the opportunity and responsibility to help our greater communities.
Our employees
Equinix has closed down all of our corporate offices globally and asked our non-IBX employees around the world to work from home. We have put into effect additional measures to ensure our employees considered to be in higher-risk populations feel safe, and also for families caring for children or additional family members at home to have the appropriate flexibility needed at this time. We will continue to pay all employees during this period and are working with our vendors and contractors with the goal to ensure that members of our extended Equinix family remain paid and cared for as well.
Additionally, we have activated our business continuity plans with the goal of ensuring seamless operations throughout this situation, including provisions for ensuring all data centers remain staffed and fully operational and that our IBXs are equipped with the necessary equipment and supplies.
On behalf of my nearly 10,000 Equinix colleagues across the globe, I want to thank you for your partnership, reiterate our commitment to you and offer our support in these difficult times.
Please feel free to reach out to us directly with your questions, feedback or ideas. In the meantime, be safe, be well and be kind.
With deepest gratitude,
Charles Meyers
