A Virtual Tour of Equinix’s Fourth Data Center in Singapore – SG4

In a dynamic, fast-paced and challenging environment, digitalization and digital resilience are proving central to ensuring business continuity and long-term success. At Equinix we are constantly focused on expanding our interconnection platform to support the world’s digital economy, which is why today, we are thrilled to announce that our fourth International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center in Singapore – SG4 – is open for business to enable our customers’ digital transformation journey in the region!

With nearly half the Asia regional headquarters based in Singapore, the country continues to spearhead the latest wave of digitalization across the region.[1] On top of being the third most robust data center market globally[2], Singapore has also been named the world’s top nation in terms of digital adoption, according to Cisco’s annual Digital Readiness Index.[3] Major cloud providers such as Google, Alibaba Group, and Amazon Web Services have invested heavily in cloud infrastructure in Singapore and this momentum is expected to continue.

Singapore continues to thrive as a major financial center of the region and has become Asia’s biggest foreign-exchange (FX) currency hub. Many major banks and FX companies, including Euronext FX, Jump Trading, Lucera, Orient Futures and Spark Systems, are relying on Platform Equinix® to enhance trading performance for their customers. Thanks to the government’s “Smart Nation” initiative, 2020 will continue to see an influx of fintech companies setting up in Singapore. As such, reliable, low-latency interconnection solutions, that provide instant and direct access to key financial markets, will give the city a competitive edge as an international financial center amidst shifting economic and financial realities.

SG4 will also play a key role in supporting the country’s digital economy and Smart Nation development. Strategically located in Tai Seng – one of Singapore’s five data center clusters – SG4 will extend our national footprint and provide more capacity to better serve businesses in Singapore and the region. The first phase of SG4 will house an initial capacity of 1,400 cabinets in an area of more than 45,400 square feet colocation space. The facility will then accommodate more than 4,000 cabinets at full build out, with a total colocation space of more than 132,180 square feet.

SG4 is directly connected to our three existing Equinix IBX data centers in Singapore via low-latency dark fiber links, upscaling data center services in Singapore and the region with reliable, secure and agile interconnection solutions, including Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric™ (ECX Fabric™). The new facility will also provide access to virtual network services without upfront capital expenses for additional equipment and infrastructure via Network Edge to allow customers to cherry pick the services they need amongst multiple vendors.
