Equinix Statement on Security Incident

Update: October 28, 2020 at 11:00 AM PDT

Our investigation into the security incident is complete. Our teams, both internally and with our key security partners, have thoroughly reviewed the findings and we closed our investigation as of October 14, 2020. Consistent with the preliminary results previously shared, we found that although some information accessed without authorization included internal references to Equinix customers, the data contained no sensitive information on customer operations or other material customer information and our data centers and services to customers were not impacted by the incident.

Our mitigation efforts have yielded full containment of the recent security incident. While we continue to investigate and interact directly with employees, customers and partners as appropriate, we will no longer be providing daily updates via this blog.

Our containment and mitigation efforts have progressed well since the detection of the incident and we have reached a milestone that we believe will prevent the release of any data associated with this incident. Our data centers and services to customers have not been impacted by the incident and our internal systems are rapidly approaching full restoration.

We continue to investigate the incident and will update this blog as appropriate.

At this time, our investigation is centered on information related to our internal business. The incident continues to have no impact on our customers’ operations or the data on their equipment at Equinix.

Equinix is currently investigating a security incident we detected that involves ransomware on some of our internal systems. Our teams took immediate and decisive action to address the incident, notified law enforcement and are continuing to investigateOur data centers and our service offerings, including managed services, remain fully operational, and the incident has not affected our ability to support our customers. Note that as most customers operate their own equipment within Equinix data centers, this incident has had no impact on their operations or the data on their equipment at Equinix. The security of the data in our systems is always a top priority and we intend to take all necessary actions, as appropriate, based on the results of our investigation.
