There is growing pressure on organizations to confidently connect to the internet in order to reach their distributed and mobile customers and workforce. This has been especially true during the global COVID-19 pandemic, when there has been increased use of remote video conferencing and working from home. These real-time scenarios require a superior, low-latency internet connection with scalable bandwidth options. More than ever, having quality internet access is a critical component of an enterprise’s IT strategy for running global operations as well as serving customers.
Today’s businesses require increased reliability, performance and agility, which means their internet access needs to be resilient, consistent and conveniently accessed via a company’s digital infrastructure. And as most enterprises must have internet access at all times, this often means providing redundant, low-latency connections to multiple internet service providers (ISPs).
Get secure, resilient and high performing internet access with Equinix Internet Access
Organizations need to connect to the internet reliably to reach their distributed workforce and mobile customers due to an increase in remote work and video conferencing trends.
Learn MoreUbiquitous and universal connectivity to the internet
Equinix Internet Access is one of our core interconnection services for providing ubiquitous and universal access to the internet for digital infrastructure on Platform Equinix®. Available in 40+ metros, Equinix Internet Access makes direct internet Layer 3 connectivity fast and easy across our global platform. The service provides consistent, low-latency connectivity to internet service providers (ISPs) around the world, whether you’re doing business in Silicon Valley or Singapore.
Equinix Internet Access can provide a shorter path or low-latency connection to leading SaaS providers by virtue of its transparent integration with the Equinix Internet Exchange™ peering platform. Businesses do not have to do anything special to benefit from this combination.
Delivering vital resiliency through redundant connections
What makes Equinix Internet Access stand out is its resiliency through redundant connections that can be quickly and easily provisioned. Every Equinix metro market has at least two upstream ISPs that can be accessed and invoiced via a single Equinix Internet Access service (within the same metro). This delivers our customers a 99.99% uptime SLA without worrying about making multiple transactions with separate ISPs to gain that resiliency.
Through Equinix Internet Access and its redundant connectivity, the following use cases can be deployed:
- Primary Internet Access – Equinix Internet Access as the primary source to the internet
In this scenario, the primary internet service is the main source of internet access for IP transit needs and includes:
- Connection to multiple ISPs
- Locally optimized public cloud and SaaS access
- Flexible and scalable bandwidth plans
- Single- or dual-homed options
- Static or dynamic routing choices including BGP
- Additional IPv4 and IPv6 addresses for digital infrastructure
- Secondary Access or Multicarrier Access – Backup internet access
Secondary or multicarrier internet access, serves as a backup to the primary provider. This service also delivers the same flexibility, performance and scalability as our primary internet access service.
In addition, there is a third scenario where Equinix Internet Access can be used for Out-of-Band Management. This is an independent/alternative access method for managing servers and network equipment separate from an enterprise’s primary internet access or when primary internet access is not available. This is useful for initial build configurations and ongoing support.
A one stop service to internet services and digital ecosystems
Equinix Internet Access enables convenient and reliable direct connection to ISPs within Equinix International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data centers. Enhanced performance is driven by local internet exchanges (IXs) with access to local routes and reduced latency to Equinix-hosted destinations. The service is easy to scale to meet fluctuating demands, such as planned or unexpected traffic spikes. And Equinix direct customers can leverage 24×7 network operations center (NOC) support on Platform Equinix from a single trusted provider.
Equinix Internet Access allows businesses to leverage the public internet to access dense cloud and SaaS ecosystem partners needed to create digital infrastructure with hybrid multicloud architectures. It serves as a one-stop shop for IP services and provides low-latency connectivity to mission-critical cloud applications such as Zoom, Office 365 and Dropbox to support today’s remote workers.
