A Look Inside Equinix’s Third Perth Data Center

The past 12 months has seen Equinix announce the launch of xScaleTM program in addition to organic expansions in Australia, so it is fitting that before we close out the year, we announce the opening of our third International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center in Perth, named PE3.

This new facility is our 18th IBX in Australia and strengthens Perth’s position as the digital gateway between Australia, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.

Why Choose Perth Data Centres?

According to Think Perth[1], the city is ranked number one for its Foreign Direct Investment strategy in Asia-Pacific and the largest center of employment and economic activity in Western Australia. Perth is also benefiting from world-class infrastructure being built, which is creating potential for future growth and a thriving metropolis for growing businesses. Think Perth says, “‘there has never been a better time to invest in the Western Australia capital” and we agree.

That’s why we are delighted to open our third Perth date center, which ensures we continue to meet the growing demands from our customers for private low-latency connectivity and access to essential infrastructure to support their digital transformation journeys.

As the alternative path from Sydney for redundancy and a faster route to key global markets, Perth is attracting increasing demand from global cloud, network and over-the-top (OTT) providers, as well as governments, mining and the resources sectors. It also serves a strategic role as the west coast connectivity point with latency between Perth and Singapore half that of Sydney to Singapore – a major differentiator that digital leaders value.

Perth’s strategic position is exemplified by the new 9,800-kilometer Oman Australia Cable, which will connect Perth directly to Muscat in Oman through Platform Equinix® when it is completed next year, offering a low latency path from Australia to Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Located adjacent to our PE2 IBX in the suburb of Shenton Park, PE3 has a secure link bridge connecting the two facilities. The first build phase provides an initial capacity of 650 cabinets and a colocation space of more than 1,830 square meters. When fully built, it will offer 1,650 cabinets and a colocation space of more than 10,600 square meters.

We are pleased to introduce and provide you a visual tour of the newest IBX to join the Equinix family – meet PE3…
