Funke was named one of the World's Top 50 Women in Tech by Forbes in 2018 for her efforts in sparking the internet revolution in Nigeria. She was also named as one of the Top 10 Women to Watch in the Data Center Industry by Data Centre Magazine. A native of Nigeria, Funke moved to the U.S., where she earned her master's in engineering from Columbia University and later served as an executive with Verizon. Funke returned to Nigeria in 2005 and founded MainOne in 2010, where she led efforts to develop West Africa's first privately owned, open-access submarine network, widening business opportunity in the region and enabling far greater connectivity for the people of West Africa.
