This year we are launching an interactive sustainability report website to make it easier for our stakeholders to engage with our environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives and find the information they need quickly. And we are expanding many of our programs to build on earlier successes.
Today on the anniversary of EWLN’s founding, I am proud to say that EWLN continues to grow - we’re currently at 1,730 members worldwide - and is run almost exclusively by Equinix employee volunteers. Over the last seven years, our employee-led initiatives have added tremendous value to our business internally on a local and global scale and has significantly impacted the external communities we support.
Together as one team, we have begun to make an indelible mark on the world. And we’ve done this by drawing from a truly global set of backgrounds, perspectives and values. This includes invaluable contributions from thousands of employees who live and work in a different country than where they were born.
In April 2015, Equinix announced a long-term commitment to use 100% clean and renewable energy for our global data center platform. To help us achieve that goal, we entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Invenergy to buy 100 megawatts (MW) of capacity from the 150-turbine Wake project. That is about 40% of the electricity generated from the array of 265-foot tall turbines being constructed here.
In the fall of 2014, we kicked off our grant-making efforts. Over 400 employees cast their ballots in the first-ever Equinix Impact Grants campaign to help select our first two grant recipients, Camara and Samasource.
