Equinix was in full force again this year at AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas. Check out some photos from the event.
Since last year’s AWS re:Invent conference, Equinix announced its collaboration with VMware and AWS to deliver private and secure hybrid cloud interconnection to VMware Cloud on AWS with Platform Equinix®. This joint solution enables our customers to establish multiple virtual private connections between on-premises vSphere environments and VMware Cloud on AWS using AWS Direct Connect and the Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric™ (ECX Fabric™).
The digital edge is also where businesses are competing in an expanding global marketplace that is driving a growing digital global economy. For companies to gain value from and monetize all this digital growth, they require direct, secure and scalable Interconnection to people, locations, cloud and data. As the Global Interconnection Index predicts, clouds are the sweet spot when it comes to where companies are focusing their Interconnection growth.
The theme at last year’s AWS #re:Invent was “the cloud is the new normal.” Here are some highlights from these announcements that I believe will be very exciting for Equinix customers moving forward.
If you are starting a cloud infrastructure architecture from scratch that is isolated from existing legacy IT, then a greenfield approach allows you to maximize cloud capabilities, while factoring in other objectives like security, performance and cost.
Your initial cloud migration steps are critical as they shape the ultimate outcome of your cloud strategy. You’ll want to start with a comprehensive cloud assessment to make sure there’s no mystery or uncertainty about what is involved in your company’s cloud migration process.
At this month’s AWS re:Invent conference, Amazon CTO, Werner Vogels remarked, “The cloud has removed previous constraints. Everything that used to be hardware is now software.” This allows for a new way to build and interconnect our systems. It is now more important than ever for CIOs and cloud architects to plan and architect these systems using sound design principles.
We had a number of our Solutions Architects (SAs) on the ground at AWS re:Invent attending sessions, talking to customers, and witnessing the positive reaction to the Equinix/Nimbo announcement of AWS Direct Connect Converged Infrastructure bundles and Equinix Cloud Exchange enablement solutions. Pragnesh Panchal, our SA from the San Francisco Bay area commented on the increased number of companies coming to our booth this year from last, and immediately recognized us saying, “I know Equinix. Please help me solve my scenario.”
Together, Equinix and Nimbo are reducing the complexity and risk of cloud enablement with two new solutions that streamline Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud deployments within Equinix data centers. The AWS Direct Connect Converged Infrastructure bundles and Equinix Cloud Exchange enablement solutions will be available in all Equinix International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data centers that offer AWS Direct Connect or Equinix Cloud Exchange, providing peak performance for customers moving to AWS.
The Equinix Cloud Exchange Configuration Package provides enterprises with configuration and testing services to one supported CSP (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google and others), along with the customer router(s) attached to the Equinix Cloud Exchange.
